London: John Murray, 1937. First edition. Cloth. Near Fine/Very Good Indeed. 8.5" by 6". Mr. de Cronin Hastings et al. . A first edition copy of John Betjeman's poetical works, held in the original dustwrapper. Written by John Betjeman the English poet and broadcaster, who served as the poet laureate of the United Kingdom from 1972 up until his death. The journalist turned poet and television Held in the original dustwrapper. With illustrations by Mr. de Cronin Hastings; Mr E. McKnight Kauffer; Mr Osbert Lancaster; Mr Gabriel Pippet. The last 15 poems in the volume were originally published by James Press in the volume entitled 'Mount Zion'. Illustrated throughout by a variety of artists, those being Mr. de Cronin Hastings, Mr E. McKnight Kauffer, Mr Osbert Lancaster, and Mr Gabriel Pippet, with several other images taken from various pre-war sources. With the previous owners ink inscription to the front endpaper that reads, 'Best Christmas Wishes, Ronald Fleming 1937.' This could be in reference to the notable interior designer, Ronald Fleming (1896-1968). In a full cloth binding held in the original dustwrapper. Externally, smart. Light bumping to the head and tail of the spine, and also to the extremities. Ink inscription to the front endpaper, with the odd spot. Dustwrapper is generally smart.
