A scarce work by James Russell Lowell. Howell belonged to a group of critics and poets known as the 'Fireside Poets, who were notable as the first American poetry group to rival the popularity of their British counterparts. In cloth binding with gilt detailing. Externally sound, though with wearing to extremities and joints and marking to boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean aside from some minor foxing. Good

Based in the literary city of Bath, our offices are housed in the Eastern Dispensary. Built in 1845, the building originally existed as a charitable institution providing medical care. The building now houses our collection of over twenty thousand books and has five full time members of staff.
