Subjects include Joan of Arc, Bloody Mary, Queen of Scots, Ninon de Lenclos, many French kings and queens, courtiers, mistresses, soldiers, knights, politicians and admirals, from five centuries of French history.
Published by famous London printer and lithographer Charles Hullmandel (1789-1850). Hullmandel was a prolific publisher and instrumental in many major improvements to lithography in the 1820s and 1830s.
Lithographer George Scharf (1788-1860) was a Bavarian-born artist and one of the best lithographers operating in London at the time.
Pigskin spine cracking on front hinge, marble boards scuffed and grubby, title page with smudges at top, but all other 99 plates clean and bright.
