Frontispiece with tissue intact and clean. Half dozen pages with folded corner. Gilt top of page edges still shiny. Unmarked text. 496 pages. Lord Macauley was a British historian and Whig politician, who served Queen Victoria , as the Secretary at War between 1839 and 1841, and as the Paymaster-General between 1846 and 1848. This volume contains 27 essays on literature and politics - 10 on literature from Knight's Quarterly in 1823 to 1824, 17 on politics from Edinburgh Review 1825-1831.
