About This Item
Paris: BALMAIN, Pierre. Ink on xerograph. Fabric swatches attached with staples. Sheets measure 12.25" x 8.5" each.

These original croquis from the designer Pierre Balmain were made from a xerograph of an original drawing. On one plate, the design shows an elegant mid-length dress with a bow tie detail at the collar and a belted waist. Swatches of the appropriate fabric, cream chiffon and cream twill, are stapled to the sheet. The accompanying plate shows the same dress, worn under a structured jacket with detailing at the waist. The same twill fabric swatch is stapled to the sheet. These sketches were produced in a limited quantity and presented to potential clients in attendance at the Paris Couture shows held by Balmain in the spring and fall of each year. These example are in good condition and make a wonderful document for any lover of fashion.
