Synopsis
The Curse of Lono is a gonzo-lite memoir of Hunter S. Thompson visiting the Kona coast of Hawaii during the early 1980's. Thompson and Steadman were there to cover the Hawaiian Marathon for Running magazine, but most of the book is dedicated to the month-long vacation afterwards, typhoons, and drunken deep-sea fishing for marlin. Interspersed with the narrative are excerpts from The Last Voyages of Captain James Cook , whom the Hawaiian natives thought was their reincarnated god, Lono when he landed on their shores. Ralph Steadman, Illustrator
