New York: Workman Publishing, 1987. 10.25" wide by 10.25" tall. Bright, clean, square, tight, unmarked copy. Sharp corners. No owner's name or bookplate. No remainder mark. Not a book club edition. Not price clipped (27.50). Beautifully illustrated with more than 100 full-color painting. The narrative is by Hartmann, an astronomer, adviser to NASA, and senior scientist at the Planetary Science Institute. The paintings, some double-page spreads, are by William K. Hartmann, Ron Miller, Pamela Lee, and Tom Miller. The paintings are of realms beyond our solar system. Some are intended to be as realistic as possible - how they might actually appear to the naked eye. Many others are fantastic imaginings of alien planets and creatures by artists with fertile minds, apparently influenced by heavy doses of science fiction. Besides book fairs and mail-order catalogues, long-time collectors and dealers will remember our lengthy For Sale ads in the Antiquarian Bookman and similar magazines. Our inventory of over 40,000 volumes is especially strong in the specialties listed, but contains fine books in a variety of other fields as well. Because most of our books are stored in protective boxes, rather than on shelves, they cannot be viewed as a whole.
