London: Hamish Hamilton, 1948. This is a Fine copy of the First Edition Thus [stated "First Published in The Novel Library, 1948"]. Red cloth binding with titling in gilt on the spine. Translated from the Russian by George Reavey.; Note by Alan Hodge. Clean text; viii, 469 pages. The dustwrapper is Very Good, unclipped. It shows dome edgewear, with some chipping at the head and foot of the spine, which is slightly darkened. A cute little book. In an archival plastic protector.. Firt Thus. Hard Cover. Fine/Very Good. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.

Synopsis

Dead Souls by Nikolai Gogol, Russian writer, was first published in 1842, and is one of the most prominent works of 19th-century Russian literature. Gogol himself saw it as an "epic poem in prose", and within the book as a "novel in verse". Despite supposedly completing the trilogy's second part, Gogol destroyed it shortly before his death. Although the novel ends in mid-sentence, it is usually regarded as complete in the extant form.
