Presentation copy, inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper, "Dedicated to Mr. Carl Lammle by Thomas Mann 15.VII.36." Translated from the German by H.T. Lowe-Porter. Introduction by Ludwig Lewisohn. Near fine in the rare original dust jacket with some expert restoration to the extremities. Rare and desirable signed and inscribed, this is the first example of this edition we have encountered.
Synopsis
The novella Death in Venice was written by the German author Thomas Mann, and was first published in 1912 as Der Tod in Venedig. It was first published in English in 1925 as Death in Venice and Other Stories, translated by Kenneth Burke. W. H. Auden called it the definitive translation.
