Red boards, brown cloth quarter-wrap spine with gold lettering. Light shelf wear to bottom edges. Binding square and sound. Photo illustrated DJ is clean, showing small wear to head and tail and corners. DJ preserved now in archival cover. Octavo. Originally published in Germany as Der Stellvertreter; translated from the German by Richard and Clara Winston. Foreword by Dr. Albert Schweitzer. The full, uncut text of the original, complete with the author's own sidelights on history. Third printing, stated. "Also published in English under the title The Representative, the play which indicts Pope Pius XII for his failure to speak out or take action against the Holocaust, has been translated into twenty languages and proven controversial in each one. It was adapted for film in 2002 under the title Amen.
