Author's 2nd book of paintings.
Following the great success of her first book,'The Cats Gallery of Art',the artist Susan Herbert now presents a cat's album of Victorian life, offering typical period scenes of an upstairs/downstairs household, with its dinner parties, musical evenings, grand balls, weddings and sewing bees. Accompanying each of these charming vignettes are selections from a Victorian cat's diary, kept by the mother of the clan and describing the various activities, the joyous events, and the occasional trials of this extended family. The book exudes the same sly humour and witty excellence of painting that brought Susan Herbert's gallery of art such an enthusiastic audience. These visual and verbal commentaries on the domestic scene of a bygone age, with cats as the endearing protagonists, should be even more widely appealing. Susan Herbert (1945–2014),freelance artist, studied at the Ruskin School of Drawing and Fine Art,University of Oxford.Having worked and painted for the English National Opera and the Theatre Royal, she now specializes in limited edition prints of theatrical animals, and exhibits frequently.
By the close of the 1970's, she had become a freelance artist, with work permanently displayed at the Theatre Royal and Kings Circus Gallery, both in Bath. During the 1980's, she broadened her interests, exhibiting miniatures in the United States (1984) and producing a set of limited edition prints and cards (1989). A major exhibition of her work was held in 1990 at the Crypt Gallery, St Martin-in-the-Fields, London. Her international popularity was confirmed by a touring exhibition, which began in Tokyo in 1995.
