Inner hinges are perfectly sound. WITHDRAWN stamp, and a few other library markings. Text pages are clean. No underlining. No highlighting. No margin notes. Bound in the original dark blue cloth, lettered in shiny gold on the front cover. A preliminary version of this book appears to have been published as A DIFFERENTIAL ADJUSTMENT METHOD OF REFINING OPTICAL SYSTEMS in Journal of the Optical Society of America (JOSA, Vol. 38, Issue 11, pp. 935-953, November 1948). Born 1881 in Ft. Madison (Lee County), Iowa, to Prussian immigrants, the author went on to become an optical designer and Professor of Physics at the Stevens Institute of Technology (Hoboken, New Jersey). .
