Penguin Books, Harmondsworth, Middlesex, 1953. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good Condition/Good. Illustrator: Ronald Searle. The text is illustrated with black-and-white drawings by Ronald Searle. Illustrated cover, again by Ronald Searle, with black and white coloured titles to the front panel and black coloured titles to the back strip. Illustrated dustwrapper, same illustration as the underlying boards, with black and white coloured titles to the front panel and black coloured titles to the back strip. First published in the 19th century, this humorous poem is of poor John Gilpin and an amazing journey that he had. King Penguin  number 70. Softening of the back strip with some rubbing to the lower book edges and to the book corners. Dust marks and a little foxing to the top textblock edge and age toning of the pages. Chipping to the dustwrapper corners and back strip edges with creasing of the edges. There is a 0.5 " tear to the top edge of the rear panel. Heavy sunning of the back strip with rubs, marks and stains to the dustwrapper panels. Browning of the verso. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. [2], 44, [2] pages,.
