About This Item

Hardie Grant Books, Richmond, Victoria, 2016. First Edition. Softcover (Photographic). Good Condition. Illustrator: Photographic. Preface, two appendices and notes. Throughout the text there are black-and-white photographs and reproductions of the author's letters; and, between pages 138 and 139 there are eight pages of colour reproductions of more letters and the occasional black-and-white photograph. Photographic paperback binding with dark red and black coloured titles to the front panel and back strip. This book is based on the letters that George Martindale sent back to his family while he was fighting in World War I. From the landing at Gallipoli in 1915, fighting at Loan Pine, then on to Fromelles and Bulluecourt (where he was injured) he sent letters home and described what he saw and went through to various members of his family. Quoting the rear panel blurb " ... George's letters were to his family but more so to prosperity. They retain the scent of the trenches, and the stains of no man's land. In them he honoured his mates, terraced his heritage and condemned falsities. His letters allow us to look back more than 100 years, and for his words to reach out to future generations." A little rubbing of the book edges and panels. The major damage has been attempted removal of original price sticker to the top right hand corner of the front panel. Size: Trade Paperback. [6], [1] 250 pages,. Please refer to accompanying picture (s). Illustrator: Photographic. Quantity Available: 1. Shipped Weight: Under 1 kilo.
