Los Angeles: Twentieth Century-Fox, 1948. Final Draft script for the 1949 film. Copy belonging to an unknown crew member, with several manuscript pencil annotations on the verso of revision pages.
A whaling ship captain takes his grandson along on an expedition, intent on teaching the boy life values, instead engaging in a battle of wills with an unruly first mate.
Set in nineteenth-century Massachusetts, shot on location at Seal Beach, California.
Blue titled wrappers, dated July 13, 1938, noted as FINAL on the front wrapper, rubber-stamped copy No. 143. Distribution page present, with receipt removed. Title page present, dated July 13, 1948, noted as Final Script. 151 leaves, with last page of text numbered 148. Mimeograph duplication, rectos only, with blue revision pages throughout, dated variously between 8/17/48 and 10/2/48. Pages Near Fine, wrapper Very Good plus, slightly yapped to the fore edges, bound internally with three gold brads.
