Avenel Books, New York, 1982. Reprint. Hardcover (Original Cloth). Very Good Condition/Very Good. Illustrator: Illustrated. Foreword, compiler and editor's preface and index. The text is illustrated with 32 coloured illustrations, of which 16 are botanical in nature. Tan coloured cloth covered boards with gilt coloured titles to the back strip. Photographic dustwrapper with black, yellow and red coloured titles to the front panel and red coloured titles to the back strip. First published in 1904, in which the author – a down-to-earth physician – published this book in easily readable terms for laymen to understand. The section on women is written by a female physician, Doctor Helen Warner, whose advice is still worth pondering today. Though the information about diseases is somewhat out of date the herbal remedies are still of use. Rubbing to the book corners and back strip edges. Tanning of the text block edges and there are foxing spots to the top text edge. Tanning of the pages, particularly the outer edges with the very occasional foxing spots. Offset tanning to the end pages with a little foxing. Rubbing of the dustwrapper edges and panels with fading of the back strip. Foxing to the verso, particularly along the edges.
