About This Item
New York: Warner Books, 1983. First Edition. First printing. Inscribed on half-title: "To Cynthie / good wishes!," signed, undated but apparently contemporary with publication. Octavo. Linen-backed boards (hardcover); dustjacket; 334pp. Fine copy in the original dustwrapper, unclipped (priced $15.50 on front flap), fine but for a faint crease to front flap.
A bright copy of Westheimer's first book, written while she was still a talk-radio host at WYNY in New York. "Dr. Ruth's Guide to Good Sex" became a breakthrough bestseller and catapulted Westheimer to celebrity as America's most popular purveyor of sex advice (a genre of celebrity which, to be clear, had scarcely existed previously). Westheimer would go on to publish nearly fifty books on similar themes; she has also hosted her own long-running television talk show and had roles in a number of feature films.
