About This Item

Rigby Limited, 1970. Hardcover Second Ed, Revised & Enlarged. SIGNED BY THE ILLUSTRATOR. Second Ed, Revised & Enlarged, with reproductions of Color Paintings by Ainslie Roberts. Very Good+ in Near Fine DJ: Book shows indications of very careful use: slight spine lean; minimal wear to the corner tips; former owner's name at the front free endpaper; binding secure; text clean. DJ shows only the mildest rubbing; price has been clipped; mylar-protected. Overall, remains structurally sound and tightly bound; a clean, sturdy, presentable copy. NOT a Remainder, Book-Club, or Ex-Library. Royal Octavo. 79pp. Paintings and Line illustrations by Ainslie Roberts. Hardback with DJ. The Dreamtime is actually a compilation of one other book, The Dawn of Time. It contains 32 Aboriginal folktales and myths, with retold text by the author and with Ainslie Roberts visual concept of the tales in color paintings. The stories put into words the Aborigines real world as well as The Dreamtime world which governs their daily actions. I was struck by the similarities between these myths and other early civilizations explanation for the world surrounding them. One thinks of Aesops tales while reading, both having moral endings. Roberts color illustrations beautifully capture the tales theme yet imparts his own vision, turning it into a natural flow between the two. This is a fascinating tiny glimpse of the Aborigines or The Brown People and their Dreamtime myths. A beautiful thought provoking book. SIGNED BY THE ILLUSTRATOR.
