A complete and unabridged English translation of Balzac's 'Droll Stories', a series of Rabelaisian, lively short stories.Illustrated with a frontispiece, and over four-hundred full-paged and in-text engravings throughout.Beautiful illustrations by Gustave Dore, an eminent French artist of the nineteenth century, perhaps best known for his illustrated edition of the Holy Bible.Undated, dated from Jisc from a copy held at the University of Edinburgh Libraries. Half-title is present.Collated, complete. In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, smart. Minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. Some light marks to the boards, including a patch of discolouration to the extremities. Small tide mark to the head of the front board. Spine is a little faded. A little light rubbing to the joints. A very small patch of loss to the tail of the spine. A few spots to the fore edge. Rear hinge is a little strained but remains firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean with the occasional scattered spot. Very Good

Based in the literary city of Bath, our offices are housed in the Eastern Dispensary. Built in 1845, the building originally existed as a charitable institution providing medical care. The building now houses our collection of over twenty thousand books and has five full time members of staff.
