The Modern Library / Random House, New York, 1936. Reprint. Hardcover (Original Cloth). Very Good Condition/Very Good. A note on the author. Illustrated end pages, being the series logo and books and the letter M. Red coloured cloth covered boards with black insert and decoration to the front panel and back strip and within those black inserts gilt coloured titles. Illustrated dustwrapper with white coloured titles to the front panel and black coloured titles to the back strip. First published in 1936, this is the story about an activist trying to organise abused labourers in order to gain fair wages and working conditions, a precursor to his much more famous The Grapes of Wrath. Softening and a little rubbing of the back strip edges with rubbing of the book corners. Tanning of the text block edges and age toning of the pages. There is some handling marks present to the book as well. Creasing of the dustwrapper edges which also has a tear to the top edge of the front panel measuring and inch; and associated crease with that tear. Sunning of the back panel with remnants of a sticker to be seen. Browning to the verso – along with further titles from publishing house. first edition by this publisher. Synopsis

In Dubious Battle is a novel by John Steinbeck, written in 1936. The central figure of the story is an activist for "the Party" (the American Communist Party, although it is never specifically named in the novel) who is organizing a major strike by the workers, seeking thus to attract followers to his cause.
