Slate gray boards and spine with bright gilt lettering on the spine; gilt baseball bats on the front board. 192 pp 8vo. In the 1950s, the town of Durand built a softball field, named themselves the Durand Merchants, and got players (mostly WWII vets) from farms, ranches, retailers, lineman, and workers to play fast-pitch softball. The team, the region's greatest took on all comers, and managed to beat most of them. This book is the story of the Merchants players, their families, their town, and their times. A clean very presentable copy.
