London, Macmillan and Co., 1876, First edition. . original green cloth, gilt spine title lettering, tiny tear at spine end, interior hinge cracked but firm, minor foxing on few leaves, interior clean and unmarked, an unopened copy, very good sound and solid. . 8vo [22.5 x 15 cm]; vii, 264 pp, folding hand colored map of Dutch Guiana, Surinam, folding street plan of Paramaribo, capital of Surinam, showing numerous buildings, market, sites, etc, index. . Welch 124. Cundall 1722. The author, who previously wrote A Year's Journey Through Central and Eastern Arabia, describes the topography, the coast, the capital, rivers, Cottica, Bush Negroes, Munnickendam, the colony, etc, with much on overall conditions and people of Dutch Guiana, now called Surinam, which the author calls a "Creole paradise".
