About This Item
[LGBTQ] [Pulp] Salem, Randy (Pat Purdue). Man Among Women. New York: Beacon Books, 1960. Cover features a vintage portrait of two women on the beach, one running her hand through the others hair lovingly. Tagline reads: "What must a man do to win one woman from another in this twisted world? Where a woman was his love rival." Listed in the "A*" tier in Grier, meaning the book has significant lesbian characters and action, and makes it a valuable part of any lesbian pulp collection. Back cover confirms "A taboo subject is treated with frankness and deep understanding." Lesbian pulp critic Yvonne Keller said Man Among Women "accommodates the genre's insistence on male voyeurism but resists the male power that traditionally accompanies it ... The male protagonist is allowed to look at lesbians but always with painful consequences ..." One of few women writing lesbian pulp fiction at the time. Cover is very clean and vibrant and textblock tight. This pulp copy is in very good condition.
