About This Item

New York: George H. Doran Front cover and spine lettered in red. Dust jacket shows essentially NO wear. Although not dated, the book was printed in 1922. The first English edition was published by Hodder and Stoughton eight years earlier. This edition has twenty-five full-page tipped-in color illustrations by KAY NIELSEN, including the frontispiece. A number of black and white illustrations through the text, as well as page borders. We have not seen a finer copy of this edition IN NEARLY-FINE DUST JACKET in our many years of selling fine books. Crisp and clean throughout. Kay Nielsen (1886-1957) was a Danish illustrator, quite popular in the early 20th century. He illustrated only five books: "In Powder and Crinoline" 1913, "East of the Sun and West of the Moon" 1914, "Andersen's Fairy Tales"1924, "Hansel and Gretel" 1925, and "Red Magic" 1930. He worked for Disney Productions in Hollywood from 1937-1941. His style was quite distinctive. See photos.. First American Edition. Yellow Cloth. Nearly Fine/Nearly Fine. Illus. by `. Quarto.
