Boston: Tichnor Brothers, 1910. Eight color , split back postcards showing historic homes in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Includes the Assembly House at the corner of Vaughand and Raitts Court, built 1750; Stoodley Tavern; Old Jackson House, built 1664; Governor Benning Wentworth House, built in 1750 and described by Longfellow in "Tales of a Wayside Inn"; Home for Aged Women, where Richard Shortbridge was imprisoned by order of Governor Burning Wentworth in 1782 when the French fleet was in the harbor; the Wendell and Tibbetts homes; Old Ladd House, owned by the DAR; and the birthplace of Colonel Tobias Lear, Washington's private secretary from 1783 to 1799, who hosted Washington here for a visit in 1798. Standard postcard backing. Each 3 1/2 by 5 1/2 inches. VG, a few cards rubbed at corners.
