A sociological and anthropological exploration into England in the 18th century. Volume one contains essays on: town life, dress and costume, amusements and pastimes, gambling and dueling, wars and rumors of wars. Volume two contains essays on: roads and travelling, education, the literary world, the political world, the criminal code, the religious world, and weddings. Written by William Connor Sydney, an English journalist, schoolmaster and preacher. In the original green cloth binding. Externally, very smart with light shelf wear and the odd mark to the board. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean with scattered spotting to the endpapers. Previous owner's bookplate to front pastedown. Very Good
