About This Item

London: Thames and Hudson, 1963. First edition. Cloth. Fine/Fine. 12" by 9". Not Stated. A smart first edition of this illustrated historical study on silver in the Irwin Untermyer Collection. First edition. Illustrated with a frontispiece, two hundred plates, and many figures in the text. Collated complete. A study of the silver in the collection of Irwin Untermyer, an American attorney, jurist, and civic leader, who became known as an avid collector and promoter of art and antiquities. Pieces donated by Untermyer constitute "one of the world's great private collections" and are on permanent display in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. This work explores English domestic silver, English ecclesiastical silver, and continental silver. Written by Yvonne Alix Hackenbroch, a British museum curator and historian of jewellery. In the original quarter blue cloth binding. Externally, excellent. Original unclipped dust wrapper is also excellent with light sunning to the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean throughout. Fine
