Bound by Riviere.A series of lectures by James Anthony Froude on the British Navy during the sixteenth century, a fascinating exploration of the Navy during a period of growth under the Tudor monarchs. Originally delivered as a series of lectures at Oxford during the Easter Terms of 1893 and 1894. Illustrated with a frontispiece, one folding map, four photogravure plates, one double paged plate, and fourteen plates.Collated, complete.Presentation inscription from Eton to Edward Frederick Lawson to the recto of the front free endpaper. Lawson was a newspaper executive and Territorial Army officer who served in both World Wars. In a half crushed morocco binding with cloth to the boards, bound by Riviere. Externally, smart. A few light marks to the boards. Inscription to the recto of the front free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and generally clean with spots to the first and last few pages. Very Good Indeed
