First Edition of one of Pope's most celebrated invectives, addressed to his physician and life-long friend, Dr. Arbuthnot. It contains Pope's savaging of Queen Caroline's confidant and society gossip Lord Hervey, who is named "Paris" here but "Sporus" in subsequent editions. Issued without half-title. Top of spine cracked, but firmly attached; cover slightly bowed; o/w a fine copy.
