Hard Cover. 347 pages: 5.5 x 7.75 in.: 1.6: KB#010361: Bookjacket/dustjacket now protected by a new Brodart Mylar Cover. Stated First Edition. Boards are original dark blue cloth with embossed bright orange lettering on front and spine panels, along with a silhouette of a sword in orange. Boards and pages are clean, unmarked, bright, tightly bound and sharp cornered. Dustjacket is complete but has several small, well-repaired, edge cuts. Scarce, Out Of Print, Book. Includes a great dustjacket action illustration, a beautiful frontispiece and four additional black and white illustrations by John Coleman Burroughs. This is the fourth book in the Venus series (also called the "Carson Napier of Venus series") and consists of four interconnected stories published in Fantastic Adventures between 1941 and 1942: "Slaves of the Fishmen," "Goddess of Fire," "The Living Dead," and "War on Venus.". "Since Carson Napier took off from Guadalupe in his rocket ship for Mars and, through a slight miscalculation, landed on Venus, three novels have appeared recording his adventures--Pirates of Venus, Lost on Venus, and Carson of Venus." : B&W Illustrations .
Synopsis
Edgar Rice Burroughs was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1875. After serving a short time in the 7th U.S. Cavalry, Burroughs was a shopkeeper, gold miner, cowboy, and policeman before becoming a full-time writer. His first novel, Tarzan of the Apes , was published in 1914, and along with its 22 sequels has sold over 30 million copies in 58 languages. Author of numerous other jungle and science fiction novels and novellas, including The Land That Time Forgot , Burroughs had a writing career that spanned almost 30 years, with his last novel, The Land of Terror , being published in 1941. He died in 1950 at his ranch near Tarzana, the California town named for his legendary hero.
