London: Holdsworth and Ball, 1833. Leather. Good. 9" by 5.5". None. A later edition of John Foster's personal and religious essays. Tenth edition. Containing Foster's memoirs, as well as essays on topics such as: the decision of character, the application of the epithet romantic, and some of the causes by which evangelical religion has been rendered unacceptable to persons of cultivated taste. John Foster was a essayist and Baptist minister. Born in Halifax, he was later educated for the ministry in Bristol. A prolific writer Foster contributed numerous articles to the Eclectic Review. Not merely focused on religious writing, his works were at times political, with Foster known for his strong belief in a national system of education. Rebound in a half calf binding with marbled boards. Externally, light rubbing to extremities and to the spine. Minor fading to the head of the front board and ink lettering to the spine. Front hinge is very slightly strained, but holding firm. Internally, firmly bound and bright throughout. Instances of light foxing, and library ink stamp to the title and last page. Good
