Spine and corners covered in remnants of an earlier music manuscript; very faint marbled paper over boards. Paper label on front board with handwritten title: Violino II. The composer, Johann Melchior Dreyer (1746-1824), published over 50 masses and requiems. This is opus 17, not the more common Sex Missae, opus 2, which was printed in 1790. No publication information, although it is most likely that this was printed in Augsburg by Lotter in 1801 (opus 14 was published in 1800 and opus 18 in 1802). In Very Good- Condition: binding is rubbed but solid; old repairs to lower corner of most leaves, with only minimal loss on pp. 43-44; soiling, primarily in lower corners; a solid copy.

Contemporary binding: calf spine and corners; patterned paper over boards with handwritten paper label on front board. Woodcut headpieces and tailpieces, including an elaborate woodcut tailpiece on Dittersdorf, p. 6. Lasser, p. 13 mispaginated 5. In Good+ Condition: leather is worn; paper over boards is rubbed and soiled with minor loss at corners and along spine; 1st leaf has 10-cm. tear from lower edge along gutter and 2nd leaf has similar for 8 cm., both without loss; light soiling.

These include many popular songs of the time, some written for the Singer's Library, such as There is Somebody Waiting for Me by C.H. Lane, as well as some older songs. Final 3 pages, including back wrapper, lists contents of nos. 1-22 of Beadle's Half-Dime Singer's Library, and titles of nos. 1-66 of Beadle's Half-Dime Library and nos. 1-55 of Beadle's Dime Library. Beadle's Half-Dime Singer's Library appeared approximately weekly from 18 May 1878 and 29 March 1879, ending with No. 43. In later reprints the illustration was left uncolored. Scarce. In Very Good- Condition: first leaf detached, but present; small stain on first leaf; corner at head of gutter trimmed without loss of text; clean and bright.

The title page does not state that Boosey is the sole American agent, as some editions do; stamped at the lower edge of the title page: "G. Schirmer, New York." "3.50" stamped in upper right-hand corner of title page. Former owner inscription on blank leaf preceding title page: "Harry J. Schools 1904." Attached to the front endpapers are two programs from performances of Giroflé-Girofla in 1914 and 1915 by St. John's Choir in Lebanon, Pa. Harry J.
