Hodder & Stoughton, 1936. First Thus. Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. Signed By Author on half title: 'Best wishes from Hugh Ruttledge Feb. 1938' (no recipient's name). Ruttledge was the leader of this important (but ultimately unsuccessful) expedition, which although it did not summit, set an altitude record that stood for years. The first 'Popular Edition' in original jacket (jacket has chip to top of spine with loss of last two letters of Everest, smaller minor chips to edges and a few spots; book has corresponding fading to cloth beneath chips; some foxing to text edges; neat ink signature of prior owner on title page). B/w plates, folding map at rear.
