One of the few works on Honduras in this period, the work describes the people, towns, countryside, nature, customs, etc in great detail and provides some attractive illustrations. 'During nearly a year's travel, extending over a thousand miles, mostly on mule-back and visiting in that time thirty-eight Central American towns and settlements, I collected everything that seemed to shed any light upon the history and natural resources of the country'.
