Early stand-alone mystery featuring "an element of weird Orientalism in heathen masks, a fatal curse, a kidnapped heiress, & a rich country gentleman from Connecticut" by the prolific author of the acclaimed Fleming Stone books, as well as numerous children's series (see our other listings). Orig. published in 1925 by Putnam's this is the First Printing from A.L. Burt (First, thus), in 334 pages. With orange cloth-covered boards stamped & lettered in gilt to front & spine, this hardcover 12mo is in VG+ condition: completely clean inside, with some darkening of unknown origin descending from top edge of spine cover. Binding straight & strong, hinges intact, pages creamy white with very mild tanning around edges, but unmarked save for remnants of old price sticker to ffep. Very mild rubbing to extremities. The unclipped DJ is Good: bright & colorful with mild spine fading & many small chips/short tears & creasing to edges, light soil; protected in nonreflective mylar cover by former owner.
