Book Description:
Beginning in 1987, The Woman's Club of Plainfield started sponsoring historical walks of the community. This book is an outgrowth from those historical walks and was written after three years of research. It contains an inventory, with photographs and historical details, for many of the oldest and most architecturally and historically important buildings in Plainfield, including some that date back almost to the 1835 founding of Plainfield at the intersection of Mooresville Pike and the National Road. Plainfield's wealth of historic architecture is reflected in the wide variety of architectural styles represented in this book, including its earliest Federal vernacular and Greek Revival structures, mid-Nineteenth Century Gothic Revival and Italianate houses, Queen Anne and Mission Revival commercial buildings, and numerous Victorian houses.
