About This Item

London; New York: Blackie & Son Limited; H. M. Caldwell Company. Printed at the Villafield Press, Glasgow, 1908. First American edition, undated [1908]. Please read full condition description. Beautifully illustrated children's fantasy stories with 24 color plates and numerous line drawings and decorative borders. Green pictorial cloth lettered and decorated in gilt, all edges gilt, 64 pages plus plates. Externally very good with some light fraying to spine ends, gilt bright and clear, light surface rubbing, hinges good, text block sound but with some plates edges protruding slightly from the text block. All plates are present, but when you look at them it's clear that they were reinserted and carefully reattached at one point due to some of the edgewear present. Most plates are very good, others not as much - we are including a photo of the worst one after page 16 along with this listing. There is some foxing to the first and last couple of leaves, a few little finger smudges to some margins, no names or other markings. It's a well used but not abused copy of this scarce title. . First US Edition. Hard Cover. Fair. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall.
