London: George C. Harrap & Co., 1932 First Edition in recent goatskin binding. George C. Harrap, London 1932. Beautifully illustrated throughout by Arthur Rackham with 12 full page coloured plates, all with captioned tissue guards. Numerous in text black and white line drawings. The book is fine with very miniscule spotting to few pages . The pictorial parts of the original binding of the front board were worked into the leather of the book cover as an inlay. The edges have been recut and the picturesque endpapers were copied to new ones. The rests of the original endpapers were bound in.

No place. No date. Circa 1870. ILLUSTRATED MANUSCRIPT. Oblong 8vo. (9.4 x 5.5 inches). Longfellow's popular eearly poem, An April day, written in a neat hand on 12 thick paper leaves. Ten of the leaves are beautifully illustrated in watercolour by an unknown but very skilled artist. Bound in attractive nineteenth century full red morocco. Spine with multiple gilt ruled lines and three raised bands. Both boards have a highly decorative gilt roll and ruled lines border around a double ruled and corner decorated blind tooled panel. The front board has the title and author lettered in gilt. Gilt inner dentelles and yellow coated endpapers. All edges gilt. A little rubbing to the extremities but overall a beautiful volume in very good condition.

Offices of the Studio. London. 1895. Volume Five. 4to. Fully illustrated throughout. Bound in early full green morocco with bevelled edged boards. Spine with raised bands, each with gilt piping. Compartments double ruled, lettered and decorated in gilt. White vellum inlay on the front cover incorporated into a gilt reproduction of the well known original design used on the cloth bound copies of this volume, within a double ruled border edge. Rear board with gilt double ruled line border. Gilt inner dentelles. Silk endpapers. All edges gilt. The binding is unsigned but is certainly the work of a master bookbinder. It is possible that this volume was bound for the publisher's salesmen of the Studio as a promotional tool.

Contemporary full blue polished calf. Spines with five raised bands, each with gilt decorative roll. The compartments are ruled, lettered and fully decorated in gilt. Red and green labels, gilt. Double gilt ruled border on boards. Board edges with decorative floral gilt roll. Inner gilt dentelles. Marbled endpapers. All edges gilt. Housed in a blue paper coveredslip case which has some minor wear but has done its job of keeping the books protected. The slip case is felt lined and has a beige silk tie pull. The spines are just a touch faded and there are a couple of small scratches but overall this is an attractive and finely bound set of this important collection.
