About This Item

Notre Dame, IN: University of Notre Dame Press. Very Good. 1984. 5th Printing. Paperback. 0268000948 . This is a trade paperback book. The book is in Very Good condition and was issued without a dust jacket. The spine ends, and corners of the book covers have some light bumping and wear. There are occasional spots of discoloration to the white covers. The text pages are generally clean and bright. The first 15 pages or so have small dog-ears to the bottom corners. Several of the first 35pages or so have an ink check mark by some of the paragraphs. "Merton became a keen proponent of interfaith understanding, exploring Eastern religions through his study of mystic practice. He is particularly known for having pioneered dialogue with prominent Asian spiritual figures, including the Dalai Lama; Japanese writer D. T. Suzuki; Thai Buddhist monk Buddhadasa, and Vietnamese monk Thich Nhat Hanh. He traveled extensively in the course of meeting with them and attending international conferences on religion. In addition, he wrote books on Zen Buddhism, Confucianism, and Taoism, and how Christianity related to them. This was highly unusual at the time in the United States, particularly within the religious orders. " (from Wikipedia) .
