The first edition of Millais' beautiful study into the River Nile, a lavishly illustrated work following the River along its course. The first edition of this work.An explorative work of the River Nile, taking the reader along the reaches of the river and the villages along it.Illustrated with a frontispiece, and forty-nine plates.Collated, complete.By John G. Millais. In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, generally smart, with some rubbing and marks to the boards and spine. Faint ringmark to the front board. Light bumping to the spine and extremities, resulting in a small amount of loss of cloth to the extremities. Spine is a little faded. Rear hinge is starting but firm. Prior owner's ink inscription to the front paste down. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages are lightly age-toned and generally clean with some spots. Amateur repair to the gutter between the front endpaper and half-title. Small bump to the text block between pages 192 and 205. The occasional pencil note to the margin. Newspaper clippings to the reverse of the plates facing pages 187, 188, and 192. Good
