About This Item
Toronto: Rous & Mann, Ltd.. Good with no dust jacket. c1928. First Edition. Hardcover. ES...[12] pp [17] ff plates. Square octavo. Signed on the title page "A. Y. Jackson." Original pine green textured paper-covered boards with pastedown, hand stitched blue yarn at spine. Covers are quite clean and unfaded, in older Mylar. No date but c1928. Lettering on cover label, decorated initials and map by Thoreau MacDonald. Title vignette, then intro by Banting, followed by a map showing places Banting and Jackson reached in the S. S. Beothic in 1927 and explanations of the plates, followed by the 17 black and white plates that follow "the course of the voyage from Godhavn to Labrador." First and only edition, we believe this is one of the 950 copies (of 1000) , as the spine is not cloth and there is no number indicating it is one of the first 50 printed. Nevertheless it is signed, which is quite a rare and lovely thing! This scarce and beautiful book is in good condition, its only flaw being a slight humidity stain at the bottom edge of plates 7-17. The mark is only in the margins, not affecting the drawings. The mark does not appear to affect the back cover. There is a small pencil "468" in the upper corner of the first blank, which may indicate this is copy 468/1000. A very attractive copy of this very scarce book with the even scarcer signature. OCLC 231782227; Drawings; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 46 pages; Signed by Author & Illustrator .
