A very nice copy, lacking the typical cracking at hinges etc. often seen in early ML bindings.. 16mo. 4.5 x 6.625 in. xii, 243 pp. ML Binding Style 1, dark peacock blue 'limp croft leather' (leatherette), with gothic Boni & Liveright device in gilt on upper cover, gilt title to spine; with blue marbleized endpapers and catalogue of 35 titles (C3) preceding frontispiece page. Translated by Constance Garnett, with an introduction by Thomas Seltzer, Russian translator and friend of D.H. Lawrence. Illustrated with black & white photographic frontispiece of Turgenev. Also translated as 'Fathers and Children'. One of the most acclaimed novels of the 19th century. An exceedingly fresh & crisp copy of this less common ML edition, from the very first year of the Modern Library series.
