Not many mathematicians can claim to have a book in the public eye for well over a century which has never been out of print, and sells millions to this day. Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, written by Charles Lutwidge Dodgson 0832-1898) using his pen name, Lewis Carroll, was first published in 1865. He was Mathematical Lecturer at Christ Church, Oxford. His publications include books on arithmetic, geometry, algebra, determinants, and trigonometry. Most of these are now forgotten, but his works on puzzles, games, and logic are still read in modern editions to this day. His Alice books-for we must pot forget his successful sequel, Through the Looking-Glass, which was published in 1871-maintain his reputation as an important writer for children. Written in the prim and class-conscious Victorian age, these books are still read avidly by children and adults alike, probably because they transcend his era.
