Full leather with gilt trim, marbled endpapers and text block edges. Respined with new label. Binding signed by Relfe Brothers, London. Dampstains to front endpapers and title. Corners worn. Army physician Andrew Leith Adams (1827-1882) took an interest in the natural history of any part of the British Empire in which he was stationed, whether it be India, Egypt, Gibraltar, or Canada. Eventually he became a professor of zoology in the Royal College of Science, Dublin, followed by professor of natural history in Queen's College, Cork.

Green cloth with gilt and stamped black decorations to front board and to spine; stamped black decoration to rear board. Illustrated throughout in black and white, with folding map to front of book. Cloth to head and heel of spine professionally restored. Usual age darkening to pages and page edges, upper page edges soiled. Some wear to outer edges of endpages. Some light foxing to pages toward boards and intermittently toward page edges throughout.
