About This Item
Washington, D.C.: Associated Publishers, 1970. First Edition. 63 pages. Illustrated with photographs, stiff paper wrappers; staple bound. Fore-edges with foxing; 2 pages with shallow crease line; contents clean. Very good.
Published in the centennial year of the ratification of the 15th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, the work examines the impact on African Americans of that amendment which established voting rights for all (male) Americans regardless of "race, color, or previous condition of servitude." The work was written by Charles H. Wesley, former president of Wilberforce University and the founding president of Central State University, both HBCUs in Ohio, who was then serving as Executive Director of The Association for the Study of Negro Life and History (ASNLH). Well-illustrated and includes a legislative history of the Voting Rights Act of 1965.
