About This Item

New York: Paragon House, 1991. Fine condition in a Near Fine dust jacket. Bright, clean, square, and tight. Sharp corners. The dust jacket is price clipped and very lightly rubbed. No chips. No tears. No creases. No owner's name or bookplate. Tiny remainder mark on one edge. Pages are fresh and crisp. Transcribed here are the poignant messages dropped or hidden by Jews on deportation trains and their cards or letters from ghettos, prisons, and death camps. Knowing or suspecting their fate, some wrote to bid final farewell to loved ones and relatives. Others scribbled last thoughts or evidence of the crime on whatever scraps of paper they could scrounge. This selection is from the collection at the Yad Vashem Archives in Jerusalem. Illustrated with portraits of the writers and facsimiles of their actual letters and postcards. Most entries include a brief biographical account of the writer, and his or her ultimate fate. Bound in the original off-white boards, lettered in shiny silver on the spine. Complete with dust jacket.. First Printing of the First US Edition.. Hardcover. Fine condition/Near Fine dust jacket. Illus. by Mary Ann Smith jacket art.. 8vo. 128pp. Great Packaging, Fast Shipping.

About About Books

About Books (Genny and Michael Winne, proprietors, formerly of Parsippany, New Jersey) has been selling rare and OP books since 1985. Besides book fairs and mail-order catalogues, long-time collectors and dealers will remember our lengthy For Sale ads in the Antiquarian Bookman and similar magazines. Our inventory of over 40,000 volumes is especially strong in the specialties listed, but contains fine books in a variety of other fields as well. Because most of our books are stored in protective boxes, rather than on shelves, they cannot be viewed as a whole. If you wish to visit us to examine specific titles, please provide 24 hours notice and we will make them available for your inspection. Phone calls to (702) 750-2722 are welcome, but please, only between the hours of 8am and 10pm (west coast time).
