About This Item

Garden City, NY: Doubleday, 1971. First Edition, First Pinting . Soft cover. Near Fine/None as Issued. Beverly Armstrong (Illustrator). Text/BRAND NEW & Bright. Illustrated soft cover/NF w/trace edge rubs. Published simultaneously with hard-cover edition, 1971. Text/BRAND NEW & Bright. Guide to the best of wines produced in California in the late 1960s. The volume concentrates on table wines --- unfortified with 10.5 to 14 percent alcohol --- and, restricted to those wines denominat "premium wines" (not bottled in bulk in gallon or half gallon jugs) with prices ranging from $1.50 to $4 a bottle (the wonders of yesteryear), Text in 5 parts: Part I, Some General Topics; II, The Wineries & Their Wines; III, Sampling of Smaller Wineries; IV, Jug-a-Lug; and V, Conclusion, followed by pointers on how to read/interpret California Wine Labels. The co-authors are both native Californians who toured the famous wine-growing areas of Europe together in their student days, and both teach a course in wine appreciation at the Univ of California in Davis. With the passage of time, the book also marks a milestone in the history of California wineries and their products.
