They were generally considered to be some of the most influential works on race relations of the 1960s.Front endpaper has been excised. In the original publisher's cloth binding, in the original unclipped dustwrapper. Externally, smart. A couple of minor marks to the boards and spine. Front endpaper has been excised. Dustwrapper is lightly edgeworn with some chips, tape repaired to the reverse. A few light marks to the wraps. Spine is lightly sunned. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Very Good Indeed
Synopsis
The Fire Next Time is a book by James Baldwin. It contains two essays: "My Dungeon Shook - Letter to my Nephew on the One-Hundredth Anniversary of Emancipation", and "Down At The Cross - Letter from a Region of My Mind". The first of these is written as a letter to Baldwin's 14-year-old nephew, discussing the central role of race in American history. The second essay deals with the relations between race and religion, focusing in particular on Baldwin's experiences with the Christian church as a youth, as well as the Islamic ideas of others in Harlem. Both essays had been previously published in The Progressive and The New Yorker before being published in book form.
