About This Item

New York: G.P. Putnam's Sons, 2002. Pictorial boards. Fine/Fine. Maira Kalman. A WONDERFUL ONE-OF-A-KIND COPY OF THE 2002 STATED 1ST IMPRESSION: SIGNED NOT ONLY BY THE AUTHOR MARIA KALMAN BUT ALSO BY 4 OF THE CREW MEMBERS ON THE JOHN J. HARVEY THE MORNING OF SEPTEMBER 11TH, 2001. SIGNED BY "JESSICA THE ASSISTANT ENGINEER", SIGNED BY "TOM THE COOK", SIGNED BY "HUNTLEY GILL THE PILOT" AND, LASTLY, SIGNED BY "BOB LENNEY THE CAPTAIN". (ALL 4 OF THEM SIGNED THEIR NAMES ACROSS THEIR LIKENESSES). An immaculate copy to boot. Clean and Fine in a crisp, price-intact, Fine dustjacket. Square quarto, beautifully illustrated throughout by the author Maira Kalman herself. (From the front dustjacket flap: "One sunny day, the John J. Harvey fireboat was built. It was the largest, fastest, shiniest fireboat of its time, and it could pump as much water as twenty fire engines. It put out some of the biggest fires of its day. But by 1995, the city didn't need old fireboats anymore. So, the "Harvey" was put out to pasture, until a group of friends decided to save it from the scrap heap. They fixed it up, showed it off and used it for havig fun, not for fighting fires. Then, in 2001, on another sunny day, something so horrible happened that the whole world shook. And a call came from the fire department, asking if the "Harvey" could battle the roaring flames, as all the fire hydrants were broken. In this inspiring true story, Maria Kalman brings a New York City icon to life and proves that old heroes never die.").
