About This Item
Cambridge University Press, Cambridge, 1965. First Edition. Hardcover (Original Cloth). Near Fine Condition/No Dust Jacket. Illustrator: Sybil J. Roles. Titles & preface to front; this is Volume four of a five volume set of illustrations of Flora of the British Isles drawn by Sybil J. Roles. These volumes illustrate the Clapham-Tutin-Warburg Flora of the British Isles. The drawings assist users of the Flora to recognise species by supplying a visual supplement to the text. They are from fresh specimens and deliberately aim to give an impression of the living plant. As the compilers of the Flora put it, 'The intention is to provide a visual impression so as to assist with the appreciation of the technical descriptions given in Flora of the British Isles and the Excursion Flora'. The degree to which the illustrations planned to supplement the Flora itself greatly increases their value. We also have for sale a copy of volume three. Size: 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall. v + 119.
